Warkworth has been earmarked by the Auckland Unitary Plan and Future Urban Land Supply Strategy as being a satellite growth centre for future urban expansion, with approximately 1,000ha of Future Urban land zoned. The Warkworth Structure Plan was adopted 4 June 2019 after a consultation and submission phase, and dictates the pattern and sequencing of urban development.
Development in the surrounding areas, such as Matakana, Snells Beach, Leigh and Omaha is largely determined by the rural coastal and natural environment characteristics.
